1923 - 2013
Margarette Miller, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 14, 2013 in Coos Bay, Ore.
Margarette was born to Carmel and Barney Barnthouse December 2, 1923 in Klamath Falls, Ore. She spent most of her growing up years in Ashland, Ore. graduating from Ashland High School in 1941 and Southern Oregon College in 1943. She held many jobs throughout her days, including working for the ration board during World War II, secretary to principals of two high schools, and as an assistant to a local dentist, but she will be remembered most by her family as a wonderful mom.
Margarette was a 50- year member of Alpha Chapter No. 1 Order of the Eastern Star in Ashland and the local AS chapter of P.E.O. She was also a member of the North Bend Presbyterian Church.
Margarette loved reading, traveling, knitting, and all kinds of crafts. She especially enjoyed researching family genealogy.
She will be remembered as a kind, sweet, gentle person of great integrity and quiet dignity. She always had a good listening ear, ready to help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by many, including family and friends alike
Margarette is survived by her children and their spouses; Alan Miller and Mary Russell-Miller of Ashland, Ore. and Steven and Linda Miller of Coos Bay, Ore., along with her two granddaughters, Jaimee and Erin Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Gordon E. Miller, whom she had the privilege of marrying in the Old Pink Church in Ashland, Ore. which has now become the Oregon Cabaret Theater.
A memorial service for family and friends will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1615 Clark Ave., Ashland, Ore. The family has requested donations be made in memory of Margarette Miller to The Salvation Army or the P.E.O. Foundations, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, Iowa in lieu of flowers.
