Updated 12:10 p.m. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department reports that Jon Ware was taken into custody shortly before noon on suspicion that he fired shots at neighbors on Coleman Creek Road this morning.
The road, which was closed after reports of shots fired came in at 10:15 a.m., has reopened and residents are being allowed to return to their homes.
(Noon)Authorities have closed a section of Coleman Creek Road after neighbors reported a resident there firing a gun at them around 10 a.m.
Jackson County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Andrea Carlson said reports of shots fired came in from the 6600 block of Coleman Creek Road this morning.
Deputies have closed Coleman Creek Road south of Griffin Creek Road. People who live on the rural road that heads into the hills along Coleman Creek have been given the option to shelter in their homes or to evacuate to a hospitality center set up in the Talent City Hall, Carlson said. Two Talent police cars shuttled some residents to safety, witnesses said.
Ambulances are standing by, but no injuries have been reported, Carlson said.
The sheriff's department has about 15 vehicles, including an armored SWAT vehicle at the scene.
Oregon State Police and the Jackson County SWAT team have joined other deputies and Talent police in the rural neighborhood.
For information about the shelter at City Hall and details about when it is safe for people there to return home, residents are advised to call City Hall at 541-535-1566.
