Ruth B. Susich, of Ashland, Ore. passed away at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center Friday, February 15, 2013 surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born Ruth Dooms in Dryad, Wash. April 8, 1924 to Henry and Gladys Dooms. The family moved to the Rogue Valley where she attended elementary school at Jackson and middle and high school in Ashland, graduating in 1942.
She was well known for her years working at Bob's Lunch Counter in downtown Ashland, as well as many years at Parsons Pine Products, Associated Fruit, and SOS. She was involved with Lions Club International and Degree of Pocahontas, where she held several offices locally and statewide.
Ruth loved to travel and took the opportunity whenever she could. She was a regular on Raindance tours, took several cruises, including Panama Canal and Mississippi Queen Riverboat cruises. She made friends wherever she went.
She is survived by daughter, Joyce Iverson-Athanas (David); grandchildren, Debbie Whisenant (Gary), Deanne Tanner (Steve), and Daniel Athanas (Jennifer); seven great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by husband, Blaine Iverson; husband, Charles Susich; parents, Henry and Gladys Dooms; son, Neil Iverson; and brother, Robert Dooms.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, 1811 Ashland St., Ashland, OR 97520. Funeral service will be Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:00 a.m., also at Litwiller-Simonsen in Ashland, followed by interment at Jacksonville Cemetery.
