Jan. 10, 1932 Feb. 10, 2013
Lovingly known by most of her family as Jo Mama, Jo Anne was called home February 10, 2013 after a prolonged battle with cancer and a failing heart.
She accomplished a great many things throughout her life including working on a well-drilling rig, manufacturing beekeeping products, retail sales at Montgomery Ward, and seamstress work (from making simple kids' outfits, to elaborate ball gowns). She made many dresses that were worn by Job's Daughters and her Eastern Star sisters. Jo Anne even found time to teach sewing at Shasta College for a time.
Serving as the Grand Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star and the Queen Mother of the Red Hats Society allowed her to share her gentle spirit with many people, but one of Jo Anne's greatest accomplishments was opening her heart and her home to many others.
She is survived by Dennis Carr, her husband of 16 years and her son, Duane Woods. Preceding her passing are two husbands, Fay Woods and Lloyd McCants. Besides her only son, she helped raise more than 15 step-children who have gone on to provide many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by Teresa McCants, Dave McCants, Greg McCants, Michael McCants, Donna Pratt, Sean Carr, Mike Carr, Danny Carr, Marc Carr, and Deborah Carr. Preceding her passing are her children, Patricia McCants, Eldon Woods, Floyd Woods, and Carol Woods; her sister, Mitzi Green; and brothers, Billy, Glen, and Neal Manwill.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 11:00 a.m. February 20, 2013, at the Masonic Temple in Redding. In keeping with her frequent volunteer work, the family asks that any donations be made to the Cancer Society, the Heart Association, or your favorite charitable organization.
