AFN's update to interrupt service early next week

Internet provider to increase bandwidth, make upgrades
 Posted: 2:00 AM January 24, 2013

Internet provider Ashland Fiber Network will be offline overnight beginning Monday, Jan. 28, so city of Ashland staff can increase the bandwidth and make other upgrades.

AFN will go down at 11:55 p.m. Monday and is expected to be back online by 8 a.m. Tuesday at the latest, according to a news release.

In addition to increasing AFN's bandwidth, crews will upgrade equipment, reconfigure the network, and reload new configuration files to AFN customers' cable modems.

AFN customers who experience connectivity issues after 8 a.m. Tuesday should manually reboot by unplugging the cable modem, waiting 60 seconds and then plugging the modem back in.

This will automatically download the new configuration file, and connectivity should be restored within five minutes of rebooting, the release said.

"There is never an ideal time to schedule upgrades to the AFN system," IT Manager Mike Ainsworth said in the release. "AFN customers are online at all hours of the day, but we had to pick a date and time and selected late night on a Monday hoping it would have the least impact on our customers."
