Medford police arrest a Talent man Saturday in connection with three attempted kidnappings. Police arrested Fidel Flores-Avalos, 39, of Talent, after questioning him about three recent reports of attempted kidnapping.
On Jan. 13, a woman reported that a Hispanic man driving a white Jeep Cherokee attempted to physically push her into his vehicle at 9:47 a.m. while she was walking through the parking lot of the Medford Center shopping center. The woman was able to escape unharmed, according to a news release.
A second similar attempt was reported at 7:48 a.m. on Thursday in the area of East Main Street and Almond Street, where a man matching the description from the incident on Jan. 13 reportedly tried to lure a woman into his vehicle. This attempt was interrupted by an unknown citizen, and the suspect in the white Jeep Cherokee fled the scene.
On Saturday, officers were called to East Main Street and Genessee Street, where a man was allegedly attempting to talk a woman into getting in his vehicle. The woman's description of the man and vehicle also were a close match to the suspect in the original incident. This time, though, the woman was able to provide a license plate number for the vehicle.
Medford police contacted the owner of the vehicle at an address in the 200 block of Talent Avenue, Talent, and identified the suspect as Flores-Avalos. Flores-Avalos was transported to the Medford Police Department, where he was questioned about the incidents, a news release said. Based on the information obtained from the investigation and interview, Flores-Avalos was lodged at Jackson County Jail on a charge of second-degree attempted kidnapping. He is being held on $5,000 bail.
Anyone with information regarding these events is asked to contact Detective Sandler with Medford police at 541-774-2230.
