National Weather Service issues freezing fog advisory

 Posted: 8:35 AM January 17, 2013

The National Weather Service has issued a freezing fog advisory for the Rogue Valley until 10 a.m. today.

NWS officials reported widespread dense and freezing fog will linger in the area during that time. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when driving because of the fog's thickness and ice slicks on the roads. The average visibility for Jackson County is about one-quarter mile.

"The combination of dense fog with icing on the road surfaces will make traveling especially dangerous, wth poor visibility reducing reaction time and icy roads reducing the ability to stop quickly," NWS officials said in advisory issued this morning.

An air stagnation advisory issued earlier this week due to inversions trapping pollutants has also been extended until early Sunday morning.

Air quality will deteriorate during that time but are expected to weaken by 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Area residents with respiratory conditions like asthma should use caution when doing physical activities outdoors.
