    Ashland boys ambushed at home by hot-shooting North Medford

    Black Tornado hold Grizzlies to seven points through three quarters in nonleague rout

  • Coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season, the North Medford boys basketball team went into Friday's contest against Ashland with a piercing focus to improve on the little things.
    It made all the difference on both sides of the ball as the Black Tornado dialed up a 95-23 victory over the host Grizzlies in nonconference action.
    "We were a really focused basketball team after our two losses," said North Medford coach Scott Plankenhorn. "We took a good two days of practice to do the little things it takes to get over the hump.
    "Our offense was clicking. We got off to a really good start moving the basketball around and finding open shooters and worked harder on the defensive end to make everything a challenge."
    Tristen Holmes got off to a blistering start, dropping in nine of his 13 points in an opening quarter that saw the Black Tornado (8-3) go 12-for-14 from the field and tally 29 points. North earned assists on nine of those baskets.
    North Medford's Christian Reyes came off the bench to drop in 13 points as well. He also contributed five steals.
    The Black Tornado also received eight points, seven rebounds and five assists from Julian Gray while Oshea Bailey registered seven points, four boards and six assists. Brandon DeBerry added 12 points.
    North Medford had 11 players score six points or more.
    RJ Atteberry scored nine points for the Grizzlies (1-11), who were held to seven points through the first three quarters.

    Girls Basketball
    McKensey Peters had 23 points, 17 rebounds and four steals to lead North Medford to a 62-35 nonconference win over Ashland on Friday at North Medford High School.
    Sierra Randleman added 15 points off the bench for the Black Tornado (8-2), while Joci Ellis had seven assists and Katie Williamson four points, four steals, four rebounds and three assists.
    For Ashland (6-7), sophomores Michaela Dunn and Georgia Williams had 15 points and 13 points, respectively.
