Jackson County Democrats have elected Matt Vorderstrasse, of Medford, as chairman.
He was elected this month and will serve a two-year term.
Vorderstrasse is originally from Dallas, Ore., and has lived in Southern Oregon for 11 years. When not engaged in political work, Vorderstrasse is employed as the development assistant at Addictions Recovery Center in Medford where he helps to coordinate fundraising, event planning, and marketing efforts.
He graduated from Rogue Community College, where he was student body president and a participant in lobbying trips to Salem and statewide voter registration and education projects. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Southern Oregon University and is pursuing a graduate degree in political science from American Public University.
Vorderstrasse has worked on political campaigns for several candidates and, most recently, coordinated the Swim Medford election campaign. He has served on the Oregon Post-Secondary Quality Education Commission, and the Board of Directors for Southern Oregon Drug Awareness. He is a current member of the Jackson County Mental Health Advisory Committee, and a past member of Medford's Multi-Cultural Commission.
Vorderstrasse and his wife live in Medford and have three children.
