Key icons give readers paywall information

 Posted: 12:10 PM December 18, 2012

A new icon displayed next to stories on the Mail Tribune and Daily Tidings websites will help readers discern between free and premium stories.

If readers see a picture of a small key next to a story, that means it is premium content.

Everyone can read three premium articles for free each month. Readers who complete a free registration can read 10 premium stories each month. Subscribers can sign in for unlimited access to all online content.

The icons have been in use on the Mail Tribune and Daily Tidings mobile sites since summer. Other sites, such as the Wall Street Journal, also use similar systems.
