YMCA provides a place for kids out of school today

 Posted: 11:20 AM December 18, 2012

The Ashland YMCA is welcoming children who have no place to go today while schools are closed because of snow that fell overnight and is expected to continue to sift down today.

For $23 YMCA members can take their kids in kindergarten through fifth grade to the YMCA, 540 YMCA Way, where they will be supervised until 6 p.m., said Ashland YMCA associate director Laurie Schaaf. The cost for non-YMCA members to attend is $28, she said.

Children should bring their own lunch and dress for winter weather as they will have the option of playing outside in the snow, she said.

Children will get an afternoon snack, and will participate in arts and crafts, and other groups games in the YMCA gym and gymnastics room throughout the day, she said

Ashland received between one and two inches of snow overnight, said Mike Petrucelli, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Medford.

The Rogue Valley YMCA in Medford is offering a similar program for $25.
