  • Here's your chance for a sneak peak inside a new Ashland tasting room months before its grand opening and to meet the owners who had fascinating first careers.
Dana Campbell Vineyards temporarily is opening its hilltop tasting room at 1320 N. Mountain Ave. from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15-16.
Owners Paula Brown and Pat Flannery promise to make the renovated, former ranch house cozy with a Christmas tree, blazing fireplace and free tastings of tempranillo, malbec and viognier.
Visitors to the 33-acre property with its sweeping vineyard, city and mountain views will be able to purchase the specially priced ($60) Red and White Mix: two bottles of 2010 Viognier and one red wine, either 2009 Tempranillo or 2009 Malbec.
Red-wine lovers can buy two bottles — one each of the tempranillo and malbec — for $45. All the wines will be discounted by 20 percent.
Gift cards made by Brown, wine stoppers, hats, shirts and other merchandise are priced 10 percent lower this weekend.
The owners say they hope to have regular tasting-room hours once all upgrades to the existing building are completed by February.
"We still have a ways to go with landscaping, but that will not impact a rainy weekend," says Brown, a rear admiral in the Navy reserves, one of two woman in the Civil Engineer Corps to attain that rank, and Ashland's former public-works director.
Flannery is a retired foundation director.
Dana Campbell Vineyards tempranillo grapes received Best of Show at this year's Southern Oregon World of Wine Festival.
Those who would like to order wines before the grand-opening party can call Brown and Flannery at 541-944-1788.
