Portland-based blues artist Karen Lovely has two shows this week in Southern Oregon as part of a pre-holiday, Northwest tour.
She'll play contemporary and classic blues with her current band — guitarist Leonard Griffie, bassist Bob DiChiro and drummer Taylor Murphy — at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Alex's Plaza Restaurant and Bar, 35 N. Main St., Ashland, and at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at Roscoe's BBQ, 117 S. Main St., Phoenix.
Lovely, a 2011 Blues Music Award nominee, plans to release her new live album, "Live! in Los Angeles," before the end of the year. The album, recorded at Herb Alpert's Vibrato club in Los Angeles, features 13 R&B and soul songs, including originals from her "Lucky Girl" and "Still the Rain" albums and classics by Big Maybelle and Big Mama Thornton.
Each show has a cover charge of $5. Call 541-482-8818 or 541-512-1046 or see www.karenlovely.com.
