    Cuisine and scene: Fans of Italian-style sandwiches have another alternative at one of the Rogue Valley's oldest pizzerias. Angelo's Phoenix location resumed preparation of the popular sandwiches — served either hot or cold with a bag of chips — earlier this month. Under the same local ownership for more than 40 years, Angelo's also is home to the 26-inch and 36-inch party pizza. The clean, pleasant dining room echoes Angelo's most recent health-inspection score of 100.
    Recommended: "Afternoon special" No. 3 combines one trip though the salad bar with a fresh-made, two-topping mini pizza and medium soda; toppings, even higher-end sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts, are generous; half sandwiches are as big as many restaurants' whole; the old-school salad bar has a wide variety, including chocolate pudding and red gelatin.
    Alternative diets: Three vegetarian pizzas and a dozen vegetable toppings; "heart-smart" toppings noted on menu.
    Beverages: Domestic and regional craft beers on tap; house wines by the glass, carafe and half-carafe; fountain sodas, lemonade, iced tea, coffee, hot tea and milk.
