Idaho's Hillfolk Noir plays an edgy brand of acoustic, hillbilly blues and roots music that it calls "junkerdash" and that music critics call "indie folk."
The band will play at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, at Caldera Tap House, 31 Water St., Ashland.
While various musicians often sit in with the band, the roster almost always includes frontman Travis Ward on resonator guitar, suitcase, harmonica, kazoo and vocals, as well as Mike Waite on upright bass and Alison Ward on saw, washboard, banjo and harmony vocals.
Last spring, the band released a new album, "Hillfolk Noir Radio Hour," which was produced to sound like an old-time radio program and includes commercial breaks for fake products. The album is available in digital and CD formats, and as a 10-inch vinyl, similar to a 1920s 78-rpm record.
