Eastern Sunz addresses current political, social and environmental issues under the guise of hip-hop.
This year, the duo, featuring rappers Aaron "Courage" Harris and Travis Taylor, won first place for hip-hop in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest and International Songwriting Competition, as well as at the 2012 Eco Arts Awards.
The pair has released six albums of witty, intellectual raps over catchy, electronic beats. The 2012 seven-track EP, "Filthy Hippie Music," is available for download at www.easternsunz.com.
Harris and Taylor, who live in Portland but frequently play in Ashland, will perform at 10:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at Caldera Tap House, 31 Water St., Ashland. This show will be the duo's first with a full, live band. The band is drummer Carlito Sway, bassist Eli Copeland, keyboardist Thierry Renoux, saxophonist Adam Harris and vocalist Elizabeth Yandel. The cover is $5. Call 541-482-4677.
