UPS was right to defund Scouts
I applaud the decision of the United Parcel Service, citing its nondiscrimination policy, to no longer financially support the Boy Scouts of America. The Boy Scouts provides great opportunities for kids. But not for all kids.
The organization discriminates against homosexuals and nonreligious persons. A Boy Scouts of America spokesman said the UPS decision will hurt communities. I believe that the Boy Scouts of America's discriminatory policy hurts communities even more, by sending the message that homosexuals and nonreligious people are inferior.
The courts have ruled that, as a private organization, the Boy Scouts of America has the right to set membership standards. Similarly, those who oppose discrimination based on sexual orientation and religion have the right to not support the Boy Scouts of America.
