Tasting Notes: Old Farm House Restaurant

 Posted: 8:50 AM November 15, 2012

Cuisine and scene: With Americana-themed knickknacks, paintings of barns and wide-open spaces, country music, homemade pies and huge helpings, this locally owned chain has a location — White City, north and south Medford and Phoenix — for almost every year it's been open. The latest is on Ashland's south end in the Tolman Creek Plaza. A decidedly older clientele favors all the classic diner options: various breakfast platters, sandwiches and hamburgers, as well as salads and wraps, the vast majority for less than $10.

Recommended: Teriyaki burger with chicken breast, grilled pineapple, traditional condiments and sweet teriyaki sauce is one of the best versions around; Caesar chicken wrap is packed with crisp romaine, grilled chicken, Parmesan cheese and croutons, all tossed in a Caesar dressing and rolled in a flour tortilla; strawberry lemonade isn't freshly squeezed but flavored with real strawberries.

Alternative diets: Substitute a veggie patty or chicken breast on any burger for no extra charge.

Beverages: Fountain sodas, juices, coffees, teas, hot chocolate, milkshakes.

Price range: Omelets, $7.95 to $9.95; other breakfast items, $4.95 to $10.55; burgers, $8.35 to $10.25; sandwiches and wraps, $7.95 to $9.75; salads, $8.50 to $9; add-ons, 40 cents to $1.35.

Extras: Senior menu of half and smaller-sized portions; voted "best breakfast" in an annual poll by Daily Tidings and Mail Tribune readers.

Serving: From 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Info: 2345 Ashland St., Space E, Ashland; 541-488-9239;
