  • FOREST GROVE — The top-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team participated in its first intercollegiate competition Sunday, with 12 wrestlers taking part in the annual Mike Clock Open at Pacific University.

  • FOREST GROVE — The top-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team participated in its first intercollegiate competition Sunday, with 12 wrestlers taking part in the annual Mike Clock Open at Pacific University.
    Fifth-ranked Prescott Garner led the way for SOU with a third-place finish in the 133-pound bracket, the only Raider to place at the event. Garner won his first two bouts of the day over Highline Community College's Steven Hopkins and Oregon State's Anthony Harris before falling to C.J. Palmer from Clackamas Community College. In the consolation bracket, Garner defeated Raymond Evans from Clackamas before defeating Clackamas wrestler Daniel Leonard by 17-0 technical fall in the third-place match.
    Craig Trask advanced to the consolation semifinals in the 149. Trask dropped his first match of the day, but he bounced back to win four straight matches before losing a 3-2 decision to Beau Roberts of Clackamas in the consolation semifinal. Dalton Urrutia won his first two matches before falling to Oregon State's R.J. Pena in the 157 quarterfinals. Urrutia earned a 17-4 victory over Highline's David Huizar in the consolation bracket before a 4-2 loss to Bryce McMahon of South Western Oregon Community College ended his day.
    Ethan Hinton finished the day with a 3-2 match record in the 197, picking up a 3-2 victory in the opener before falling in the quarterfinal to Trevor Hall from Peninsula Wrestling Club. Hinton won his next two consolation matches before dropping a 12-7 decision to Nick Locke from Locke Modeling Agency in the consolation semifinals.
    Fifth-ranked Bubba Owens won his first two matches in the heavyweight bracket before falling in a 12-3 major decision to Oregon State's Chad Hanke. Tanner Marval won his first match in the heavyweight bracket before falling to Jacob Mitchell of Clackamas Community College.
    Southern Oregon will compete in its first dual of the season Friday, when the Raiders host No. 8 Great Falls at 7 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.
