    Ashland High boys suffer first-round loss at Wilsonville

    Grizzlies fall behind early to Wildcats

    The Wildcats (7-4-4) scored in the 15th, 42nd and 66th minutes.
    Defenders Nick Chouard, Gabe Young and Max Heine played strong for the Grizzlies (8-7).
    College Wrestling
    Tonight is the 43rd annual Red and Black intrasquad between Southern Oregon University's wrestling veterans and the new members of the squad.
    The Raiders feature three top-ranked wrestlers, including defending national champions Mitchell Lofstedt, a 125-pound senior from Roseburg, and Brock Gutches, the 174-pound native of Central Point.
    Jimmy Eggemeyer, a senior, is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds after finishing second last season.
    The red squad will feature several state champions and some NCAA Divison I transfer students who look to break into SOU's lineup.
    The duals start at 7 p.m. at Bob Riehm Arena.The Raiders' first home dual meet of the season will be against No. 8 University of Great Falls on Nov. 16.
    Cross Country
    A fifth consecutive Cascade Collegiate Conference championship earned the tpo-ranked Southern Oregon University men's cross country team another honor: CCC Adidas Team of the Week.
    The Raiders dominated the CCC Championship meet at Lents Park on Saturday, placing seven runners in the top 20 and winning the meet with 28 total points. Raider runners finished in three of the top four spots. Scott McIntyre led the group with a second place finish, followed by Eric Avila in third, Tyler VanDyke in fourth, Brett Hornig in seventh and Jared Hixon in 12th as the quintet earned all-conference honors. Head coach Grier Gatlin was named Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year following a vote of the CCC head coaches. "We thought if we ran in a very solid, tight pack, that our chances for winning would be good," Gatlin said. "We executed that plan very well and were pleased with the outcome."
    The Raiders topped the NAIA rankings in every poll released this season and are listed as the favorites to win their second national championship in three years going into the Nov. 17 NAIA National Meet in Vancouver, Wash.
    Southern Oregon won the first championship in program history in 2011 and finished third overall last season.
    College Football
    Any Veterans with proper military identification will be admitted free to the Montana Tech-Southern Oregon game Saturday. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. at Raider Stadium, as the 12th-ranked Raiders will face seventh-ranked Montana Tech for the Frontier Conference Championship.
    Saturday's Veterans free program is sponsored by SOU Athletics, the SOU Veteran's Specialist office and the SOU ROTC program.
