Republican Doug Breidenthal's lead widened overnight in the Jackson County commissioner race, but a clear winner hasn't been called.
Democrat Jeff Scroggin said he would wait a little longer before making a decision on the race.
"We lost more during the night," he said.
The latest results from Jackson County Elections posted at 1:21 a.m. show Breidenthal with 37,763 votes to Scroggin's 35,523, a 2,240-vote difference, or 48.5 percent to 45.6 percent. In the first round of voting results, the difference between the two candidates was about 1,200 votes.
Troy Hackett, the Independent candidate who was largely absent during the campaign, received 4,539 votes, or 5.8 percent.
A large number of voters — 7,194 — didn't select any candidate in the commissioner race.
Breidenthal said his spread had widened overnight, which is typical in most elections, but he didn't want to claim victory yet
"I think at this point we will just wait until the official results come in," he said.
