Old Souls and Spicy Dishes

Old Souls and Spicy Dishes is husband and wife Howard (fiddle) and Cherie (mandolin) Davol, neighbor Rich Ugland (guitar) and longtime friends Tom (banjo) and Susan (stand-up bass) Daley, with son Chris Daley (mandolin).

Formed three years ago, the band plays the second Tuesday of every month at The Wild Goose Cafe & Bar, 2365 Ashland St., Ashland. Its next show is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Sets comprise a variety of bluegrass, folk and Americana, ranging from Lefty Frizzell's "Always Late" to the George Jones version of "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." The group also covers songs by Bill Monroe and Jerry Garcia, as well as Ugland's originals, including the band's namesake, "Spicy Dishes."
