Pearl Ruth Gomer Ferguson, 87, a resident of Ashland for the past three years, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012. Pearl moved to Ashland in 2009 with Vincent, her husband of 66 years. They were residents of the Mountain Meadows Community before injuries caused them to relocate.
Pearl was originally from St. Louis where she graduated from Cleveland High School and Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Pearl worked in hospitals and with pediatricians, but her family meant more than anything else to her.
Pearl's daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ferguson and Peter Schroeder, faculty members at Southern Oregon University, live in Ashland with their daughters, Mariah and Ana. Additionally, daughters Nancy Ferguson (David Pinkard), Pat Jamjoom, and Mary Ferguson (Larry Clark); and sons, Tom Ferguson (Judy) and David Ferguson (Jill); along with 11 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter brought great joy to Pearl. From her example her husband Vincent, her children, and grandchildren learned the joy and value of a loving family and feel the great loss of her presence at its center.
There will be a celebration of Pearl's life Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 2:00-5:00 p.m. at Pioneer Hall across from Lithia Park in Ashland. The family welcomes all colleagues, friends, caregivers, and others to celebrate Pearl's life.
Donations in Pearl's memory can be made to the Ashland Parks Foundation, 340 South Pioneer Street, Ashland, OR 97520 for the North Mountain Nature Center. Pearl was a frequent visitor to the nature center; she had a favorite spot by Bear Creek that reminded her of her beloved Gasconade River in Missouri.
