OSF artistic director wins award

 Posted: 3:15 PM October 26, 2012

Bill Rauch, artistic director of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, is the 2012 recipient of The Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes "an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through imaginative, brave work in theatre," a press release announcing the award said.

The $5,000 award, given by Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation, recognizes both past work and promise for the future, and commends commitment to a community, the release noted.

Prior to becoming artistic director at OSF in 2007, Rauch worked for 20 years as co-founder and artistic director of Cornerstone Theater Company in Los Angeles, where he directed more than 40 productions. He has also directed at Lincoln Center, the Mark Taper Forum, the Guthrie, Arena Stage, Seattle Rep, Pasadena Playhouse, Long Wharf, Portland Center Stage and Great Lakes Theater Festival.

A peer review committee selected Rauch from 26 nominees in the western U.S.

The award will be presented on Monday, Nov. 12, at a private presentation in Los Angeles.
