Wine Without Reason

 Posted: 8:31 AM October 18, 2012

In June, Wine Without Reason released its 13-track, all-original album, "First Vintage."

The independent recording features old — as old as 1975 — and new originals by singer, songwriter, pianist and guitarist Scott Calamar and his band, brothers Bruce (bass) and Kevin (drums) McKern. "First Vintage" is available on iTunes and at, and Music Coop in Ashland.

"It's rare to be able to get a song to sound as good on CD as it does in your head, ... but this one does," Calamar says.

The alt-rock and pop band will present some new material, including the swingin' "Good Enough," the wispy "Come With Me," the biting "Somewhere Over Your Head" and the political "Bitter Wind," at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at The Wild Goose Cafe & Bar, 2365 Highway 66, Ashland.

The band plays only original music and, in two years, has only covered two songs by other artists.

"I see no reason to do songs the original artist did very well," Calamar says.

There is no cover charge to any show at The Wild Goose. Call 541-488-4103 or see
