Cuisine and scene: Among similarly appointed, independent coffee shops, this one in the Talent Depot Building has nostalgic architecture and decor on its side. Formerly and fittingly the Whistle Stop, given its proximity to the railroad tracks, the cafe has been Crema for the past couple of years and offers a surprisingly large selection of egg dishes, sandwiches, salads, even burgers. The high-ceilinged space hung with fans achieves a cozy feel with plush, red carpeting on the wide-plank, fir flooring and warm, wooden window and door trims.
Recommended: Lox and bagel platter comes with generous portions of cream cheese, vibrant tomato slices and juicy red onion; turkey club comes stacked high on a pillowy roll instead of standard sandwich bread; mixed, baby salad greens are organic and commendably fresh.
Alternative diets: Vegetarian frittata, sandwich, cheeseburger and bento; gluten-free items available.
Beverages: Full slate of specialty coffees, along with hot teas and hot chocolate; organic juices, natural sodas, iced tea, lemonade, smoothies, slushies and Asian "bubble teas."
Price range: Breakfast items, $3.75 to $8.25; sandwiches and burgers, $6.50 to $8.95; salads, $4.95 to $8.95; soups, $4.25 to $6.50; bento, $5; baked goods, $2 to $2.75; add-ons and sides, 50 cents to $3.
Extras: Outdoor seating available; parking in lot adjacent to Talent City Hall; menu items and prices soon to change.
