A "Welcome to Ashland" sign just up the hill from Butler Ford was pulled down sometime between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning by vandals, Ashland police said.
The sign is just before the railroad tracks. Ashland police Sgt. Tighe O'Meara said the vandals pulled the sign down by hand and did not use a vehicle. They also pulled down the anchor beams that hold the sign in place.
"It's not shattered into pieces from what I understand," O'Meara said, adding the damage is estimated to be hundreds of dollars.
Police were uncertain who owns the sign and would be responsible for repairing it.
"That's a little bit up in the air because the sign was put in a long time ago," O'Meara said.
Anyone with information about the damage to the sign can call Ashland police at 541-482-5211, or on an anonymous tip line at 541-552-2333.
