The Insurance Services Office recently gave Jackson County Fire District No. 5 an improved Public Protection Classification for its coverage of the cities of Phoenix and Talent, according to a news release.
Most U.S. insurers use the classification when deciding upon coverage and prices to charge for personal and commercial property insurance, meaning better classifications can result in lower premiums.
District 5 Fire Chief Dan Marshall said the department has worked hard to improve its classification.
"Our customers should realize a cost savings in annual insurance premiums," he said in the release.
Both cities improved their classification from a 5 to a 4. The classification is ranked based on building locations, estimated water necessary for fire suppression, adequate alarms and emergency telephone services, fire department equipment and water supply.
