Memorial services for Oliver Dodd Varner, 69, were held Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Center United Methodist Church in Gadsden, Tenn. with military honors. Mr. Varner passed away September 15, 2012 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tenn.
Mr. Varner was born July 16, 1943 in Hillsboro, Ore., the son of the late Gordon Simeon Varner and Jane Laferty Varner. He was a self-employed contractor. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era from 1960 1967.
Oliver had a distinctive and contagious laugh. Everyone knew when he entered a room. He loved giving to others. He was there to help at any time. He continues helping others by being a donor.
He is survived by one daughter, Dare Parrish and husband Terry of Trenton, Tenn.; one brother, Jack Varner and wife Susie of Medford, Ore.; one sister, Juanita Wood of Keizer, Ore.; two grandchildren, Kandi Stehlik and husband David of Oak Point, Texas and Shawn Parrish of Trenton, Tenn. Mr. Varner was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Smith Varner of Alamo, Tenn.
