Robby Roy Oakley was born December 20, 1946 in Yreka, Calif., to Betty and Louis Oakley and passed away September 16, 2012 in Florence, Ore., at the age of 65. He grew up in Hilt, California and Ashland, Ore., graduating from Ashland High School in 1965 then serving in the U.S. Army in Korea.
He trained and worked as a barber in Ashland, Medford, and Portland, Ore. He spent time in Alaska moving, to Florence, Ore. in 1984. He retired from American Laminated in 2009, and was currently employed at Grocery Outlet in Florence. Rob was active in the Florence community as a volunteer fire-fighter, Boy Scout leader, and T-ball and little league baseball coach. He worked in the Explorer program through the Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue Department. Through all of Robby's life he was a joy to all. He loved to tell stories and to laugh and hear others laugh. Family and friends were very important to him.
Robby is survived by his wife, Diann; children, Mark, Stacie, Dale, Katrina Casey, Karma, and Kyle Oakley; grandchildren, Soren Oakley, Riley Walters, Megan Oakley, Jory Oakley, and Kade and Kami Smith; sisters, Terry Miller (Danny), Paddy Brown (Ronald), and Tammy Oakley; also, many nieces and nephews and a large extended family all of whom will miss him dearly. Robby was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Kenneth Brown.
A memorial service will be Friday, September 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue Station #1, 2625 Hwy. 101 Florence, Oregon, with private burial at Pacific Sunset Cemetery Florence, Oregon.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Robby's name to Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue Scholarship fund, 2625 Hwy. 101 Florence, OR 97439 or Florence Junior Baseball Association. Burns's Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
