Air deteriorates in Medford, Grants Pass areas

The Medford area has joined the Grants Pass area this morning in restricting the use of woodstoves because of deteriorating air quality. The restrictions last until at least 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials in Jackson County declared today a "yellow" day, meaning only certified woodstoves can be used and that they must not produce visible smoke. The same restrictions apply in Josephine County.

Particulate pollution in both areas is in a range that is unhealthy to sensitive groups of people, according to the state Department of Environmental Quality, which measures pollution at stations around the state.

More information is available from Jackson County at 776-9900 and from Josephine County at 476-WOOD.
