Last day to vote on meals tax
Ashland voters have until 8 p.m. to cast their ballots on the issue of whether to extend the city's 5 percent meals tax to 2030.
Ballots can be dropped off at a drop box behind the Ashland Public Library, 410 Siskiyou Blvd., or at the Jackson County Elections Division at 1101 W. Main St., Medford. Both ballot drop boxes will close at 8 p.m.
It is too late to mail ballots.
Proceeds from the tax are used to pay off bonded indebtedness for a city sewage treatment plant and to purchase and improve city parks. Restaurant owners and others have opposed the tax, saying it has hurt business and unfairly targets one sector of the community. The tax will sunset in December 2010 if it's not renewed.
Updated results on the vote totals will be available tonight at www.dailytidings.com/elections, immediately after they are released, beginning at about 8 p.m.
