  • The third annual Peace Village Festival is returning to Southern Oregon. The festival will run from 4 to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7; 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8; and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9, at Jackson Wellsprings, 2253 Highway 99 North, Ashland.
The theme for this year's family friendly event is "Let's Village Together!" This year's event is dedicated to the memory of peace-event organizer and activist Steve Traisman. There will be three full days of varied musical performers, a community market, skill-share faire, healing sanctuary, community picnic and a drum circle. Vegetarian meals and snacks will be available provided by the Wellsprings' new Café Namasté.
With the exception of the two fundraisers on Friday evening, admission to Peace Village is free. Organizers of the event welcome any donations of money, time and energy.
Friday evening's "Give Peace a Dance!" will take place from 7 to 11 p.m. featuring Ambe Ray, Aletha Nowitzky, Cornflower, DJ Medicine Man, DJ Samadhi, DJ Keala, and other local djs. Veggie dinner and snacks will be served by Cafe' Namaste'. Suggested contribution for the dance is $10-$20.
The party will continue into the early morning, with a Late Night Trance Show at 11 p.m. in the Wellsprings Community Room. There will be performances by DJ Solus and Liquid Fire Mantra. Suggested contribution for the show is $5 to $10. The pool and spa will remain open late.
The Bellview Grange Expanded Outdoor Community Market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be fresh local produce and other local foods, local crafts, locally made herbal body care and herbal products, as well as crafts and garage-sale items for sale. Bartering is encouraged
Running at the same time as the market will be a skill-share faire with free classes in a variety of useful skills. There will be classes in tool efficiency, knot-tying, water quality, solar cooking and other skills.
At the healing sanctuary, there will be mini-sessions from a variety of area healers and health professionals. Sessions include massage, acupuncture, reiki, shamanic and group healing.
On Sunday, there will be a community picnic from noon to 4 p.m. Dominic Allamano and friends will lead some community engagement exercises and games during the picnic. Afterwards, from 4 to 5 p.m., there will be a community drum circle facilitated by Shakerman. Bring your own drum and other percussion instruments.
Musical performances will be taking place from morning till night Saturday and Sunday. Performers include Donny Roze; Aaron Reed; Greta Gardiner; Taurie Michele; Gene Burnett; Peter Wood; Richard Stillwell; Jen Ambrose Band; Montana Soul; Alice DiMicele; Craig Wright Band; Pure Love with Beloved and IWill, Prema Mayi & Friends; Sean Hodge; Mathew Schoening; and State of Jefferson.
The event hopes to encourage community efforts toward living peacefully and sustainably.
