Six-year-old Lucas Patterson is happy to demonstrate his hip hop dance moves or his creativity with Legos, K'nex and pretty much anything he can build with. The sunny first-grader is enjoying the summer sun, playing with his friends, and building Lego-sized works of art.
His teacher, Lacey McDonald, says she is delighted by Lucas' creativity and humor both in and out of school.
"Lucas is very imaginative. He has a terrific positive attitude and a great sense of humor," she said. "He is a joy to have in class."
Lucas spoke with the Daily Tidings about some of his favorite things.
DT: What school do you go to?
LP: Pilot Rock Christian School.
DT: What is your favorite activity?
LP: Legos. I build masterpieces with Legos. I once built a guy sitting on his knees and opening his chest. It was cool. And I love music and dancing. I was taking hip hop classes at the DanceSpace, and I'm going to do it again after the summer: hip hop and boogie.
DT: What are your favorite subjects in school?
LP: I like science, like making bricks and studying fossils.
DT: Tell me about someone at school you like.
LP: My friend Enzo. He makes me happy and he does nice things for me. My favorite teacher is Ms. McDonald. She's going to be my teacher in first-grade at Pilot Rock. She was also my teacher last year.
DT: What do you think you may want to do when you grow up?
LP: I haven't really thought about that. Maybe something where I build stuff. Maybe a fireman.
DT: Talk about something you have done that makes you proud.
LP: I play soccer pretty good and it's fun. Also, I danced at the Fourth of July parade. That was a lot fun. I am proud of the dancing.
DT: What is your favorite thing about summer?
LP: I get to be lazy.
DT: Talk about something that is challenging for you.
LP: Building my K'nex rollercoaster is pretty hard. It's big.
DT: Tell us about someone in your family who makes you proud.
LP: My mom and dad because they do a lot of stuff for me and for everyone.
