A California teenager is dead after the speeding car in which she was a passenger hit two trees and rolled Tuesday night near Yreka.
Cassidy Spence, 14, of Happy Camp, died in the accident, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol. A 16-year-old, Sabrina Spence, of Happy Camp, suffered cuts to her hand and shoulder in the accident while the driver, Robert Phillip Burrer, 21, of Happy Camp, suffered neck and back pain.
Burrer was driving a Toyota Celica west on Highway 96 at 6:24 p.m. when it drifted onto the road's shoulder, police say. When he tried to bring the car back onto the road, police say, he lost control and the car struck a tree. It spun and then struck another tree before rolling several times.
