  • An 18-year-old Medford woman was arrested this morning after she stole a car and later crashed it with the young son of the car's owner in the back seat, police said.
Lauryne Stubbs stole a white Pontiac Sunfire parked on the 100 block of South Mountain Avenue at 1:36 a.m. then flipped the car at the intersection of South Valley View and Eagle Mill roads approximately 10 minutes later, police said.
Stubbs was a passenger in the car driven by the boy's mother when the mother got out of the car to enter a home, leaving the keys in the car. The pair intended to drive to Medford to pick up a friend, but when the mother returned, the car was gone, Lt. Corey Falls said.
Both Stubbs and the 19-month-old boy were transported to Rogue Valley Medical Center with minor injuries after the crash, he said. The boy was strapped into a car seat at the time of the crash and was released to his mother after treatment.
Stubbs was lodged at the Jackson County Jail upon release from the hospital on charges of driving under the influence of intoxicants, second-degree kidnapping, reckless endangering, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and third-degree assault.
