Thornton named Asst. City Attorney
The city of Ashland has a new assistant city attorney.
Megan Thornton, 26, came to Ashland as an interim assistant city attorney in January to help out Richard Appicello, who at that time was serving as interim city attorney.
Thornton had worked as an intern for Appicello when he was city attorney for St. Helens.
"Megan is an extremely bright attorney with excellent communication skills, an admirable work ethic and a great attitude," he said. "She is a welcome addition to the city of Ashland's legal department."
Thornton accepted the official assistant city attorney position on March 31.
She has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Berkeley and received her law degree from Willamette University College of Law.
Thornton, who has a special interest in business law, said she accepted the position because it was a great opportunity. She said Ashland is involved in so many things, like the Ashland Fiber Network and having its own public utilities, that she's exposed to many aspects of law.
