AMS math students win at Pentagames
Ashland Middle School students took first place overall at the 25th annual Pentagames Mathematics Contest on April 25.
One hundred and thirty-two seventh- and eighth-graders from Jackson, Josephine and Douglas counties competed at Talent Middle School. Nearly 1,000 students participated in eight such regional events across the state.
This one day event celebrates math education with a competition involving a range of mathematics problems in five formats: Math Tac Toe, Solve That Problem, CR Squared, 35 Minus and the culminating Relay event.
Ashland Middle School took first place overall, followed by Scenic Middle School in second place and Hedrick Middle School in third.

In addition, individual awards were given to the following AMS students: Charles Haneberg, first place seventh grade; Malia Rosenlund, first place eighth grade; Conor Morrison, third place eighth grade; Ian Smeenk, second place open division.
Other AMS team members were: Emily Bestor, Maya Zundel, Ana Thomquist, Zena Coffman, Courtney Farmer, Wyler McAninch-Ruenzi, Elias Opgenorth and Savannah Edson.
