Middle school hosts Bear Fair
Parents swarmed the halls of Ashland Middle School during Thursday evening's Bear Fair, going from classroom to classroom to view students' work.
"Each classroom has a station showing work that we did, reports we worked on and art projects," said sixth-grader Hope Garcia, whose class showcased African masks that the students made.
Sixth-grade teacher Susan Fry, who is retiring this year, said the Bear Fair is basically an open house for the community.
"Usually they send the fifth-graders to meet the new teachers they will have next year, but enrollment is declining," Fry said. "This year we have eight sixth-grade teachers, next year we'll have six. So it's different in that I don't have any new students to meet."
Gavyn Stich presented his poems and stories on a poster board in Andy Burt's class.
"These are mostly my language arts projects," Stich said. "Some of my stories are about aliens."
Janet Voorhies' class put together a presentation on the planets for parents to view on a projector.
"Bear Fair gives the students a chance to see what the other teams have been working on too," Fry said.
